Having celebrated its 45 year anniversary in April 2016, The London Book Fair (LBF) is the global marketplace for rights negotiation and the sale and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film and digital channels. Taking place every spring in the world’s premier publishing and cultural capital, it is a unique opportunity to explore, understand and capitalise on the innovations shaping the publishing world of the future. LBF brings you direct access to customers, content and emerging markets.

LBF 2016 took place from Tuesday 12th – Thursday 14th April 2016 at Olympia in West London. www.londonbookfair.co.uk

Since 1999, BIC’s annual supply chain seminar at LBF has provided both national and international representatives of the book industry, and members of the public, with an opportunity to meet and exchange views and information on all aspects of the supply chain.

This year’s seminar – Building a Better Business – took place on Thursday 14th April, 10am-12pm in The Dark Room, Olympia (Level 1, Grand Hall Gallery, beside the Media Centre). Visit the LBF event page, here.

This 2-hour session featured some fantastic presentations on a variety of topics from book industry experts, all ultimately focussed on helping delegates to build a more efficient business. Out attendees heard: (via a discussion on coding skills, technology and publishing strategy) why the book industry urgently needs to become more technically literate; about latest news and updates from The Copyright Hub, and how this organisation can greatly help publishers and authors; about the changes to ONIX 3.0 since its creation in 2009; and the latest on the international subject classification standard, Thema – especially why organisations need to be implementing/migrating now. Finally, we were delighted to launch and explain the benefits of “BIC Realtime; standards for instant business message exchange” at this event.
